Ontario, Burlington, Oakville, fire, grass, closed roads

Burlington Fire crews would have to enlist the help of the Oakville Fire Department on Wednesday afternoon while they were busy tackling several wind-aided grass fires along railway tracks in various parts of the city.

Several Burlington fire crews responded to calls of grass fires along the CN Railway tracks shortly after 3 p.m. that spread from Appleby Line and Upper Middle Rd. south to Mainway Ave. and all the way north to Dundas St.

Heavy smoke from the fires resulted in poor visibility leading Halton Regional Police to close the Upper Middle St. railway underpass, just west of Appleby Line.

Halton police would eventually shut down Appleby Line near Upper Middle Rd. and Dundas St. It reopened around 6 p.m.

Grass fires also shut down Mainway Ave, east of Walkers line.

Burlington fire would fight the grass fires for almost three hours.
